![]() To make each level have more replayability, why not make it a little more open world? ![]() However, after that initial time that element of surprise deteriorates. There's nothing better than having that added craziness of not knowing where you're meant to be going when there are millions of zombies eager to eat your innards. Running through the various campaigns of Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Daed 2 were the best the first time around. The same applies to an incident involving Valve employee Tristan Reidford, who posted a tutorial for importing source engine assets into the Destinations platform, but one of the images happened to include a list of his favourite folders.Īmong those was one titled Left 4 Dead 3. Slightly more encouraging are the set of small leaks which indicate something might be happening at Valve.įor instance, references to the game were discovered in a benchmark tool for the HTC Vive (the Steam powered VR headset). " Left 4 Dead is a good place for creating shared narratives." That work ended up informing everything we did in the multiplayer space. "When we decided we needed to work on markets, free to play, and user generated content, Team Fortress seemed like the right place to do that. "Products are usually the result of an intersection of technology that we think has traction, a group of people who want to work on that, and one of the game properties that feels like a natural playground for that set of technology and design challenges. No one is better placed to talk about a potential sequel than Gabe Newell himself, but during a Reddit AMA earlier this year, he was evasive when asked about the topic of a new L4D. LEFT 4 DEAD 3 EVIDENCE - IS IT ACTUALLY BEING MADE? The industry's most secretive developer hides its inner workings with care.īut that won't stop us scraping together every last fragment of evidence. Tiny hints at development behind the scenes at Valve could be red herrings. So what do we know so far about Left 4 Dead 3? Very little. It's been a long time since we last had a fresh Left 4 Dead title after all, with the excellent Left 4 Dead 2 arriving back in 2009. Hopefully not another 10-year wait, though. We ploughed serious hours of gameplay time into the two Left 4 Dead games, but we're more than ready for Left 4 Dead 3. Or this could all mean nothing - it's a wait-and-see situation. So, L4D3’s rotting corpse could potentially dig itself out of the grave, too, and barrel toward us with the speed of a Tank. Valve have more recently stated that, yes, they do “definitely have games in development,” and we also know that other projects, like the ethereal Half-Life 3, have stopped and restarted development a handful of times. Left 4 Dead 3 was said to be an open-world undead bonanza set in Morocco, and it was apparently cancelled due to the Source 2 engine’s limitations. In the Half-Life: Alyx - Final Hours documentary, we learned that Valve had actually been working on L4D3, but they eventually scrapped the project alongside another Half-Life shooter (not Alyx) and a Dark Soulsish RPG. Even still, priority-none doesn’t instil much confidence that the project is imminent, or even in development. Most recently, mentions of Counter-Strike 2 were found in CS:GO’s files, and - against all odds - Counter-Strike 2 was real, and it’s coming this summer. It’s funny to think that Valve just enjoys trolling fans via obscure code names hidden in files, but sometimes they do become actual tangible games. This prompted Valve to declare that they were "absolutely not working on anything L4D related now, and haven't for years." Mentions of a Half-Life 3 and a Left 4 Dead 3 also popped up several years ago in the files for Portal VR, but Valve often recycles assets between projects, so the remains of a once-in-development L4D3 might be the culprit here. As we reported at the time, in 2020 HTC’s president Alvin Wang Graylin shared VR-related slides mentioning Left 4 Dead 3 alongside Half-Life: Alyx. ![]() This isn’t the first time there have been rumblings of a third Left 4 Dead.
